Countess Vaughn Weighs In on Hollywood Divas
She’s NOT afraid of a little competition, but the Hollywood Divas star, Countess Vaughn, reveals that she can relate to those newbies to the game who are snatching up acting jobs.
The former, The Parkers & Moesha star, Countess Vaughn recently sat down with S2S to speak on her new gig, Hollywood Divas, produced by Kandi Burruss‘ husband Todd Tucker.
Countess says:
“May the best woman win,”
“I came from a singing background. So, that easily could have been said about me: ‘She’s not an actress. She’s a singer.’ That’s why I never talk about anybody about their beginning. I know firsthand what it’s like and to be a newbie.”
Countess reveals that there has been a bit of a division between those trained, educated actresses and those who may have reached stardom using another route, especially when it comes to former Real Housewives of Atlanta star Lisa Wu. On the TV One show, Lisa joins a cast of accomplished actresses; Elise Neal (The Hughleys), Golden Brooks (Girlfriends), Paula Jai Parker (Hustle and Flow), Countess Vaughn (The Parkers).
Here is what Countess has to say about Lisa, who finds herself on the outside of the actress’ circle when the show premieres.
“Let’s go into this situation with an open heart and an open mind. We all have our own way of getting in this industry. We don’t all have the same story. Let’s just not close our thoughts to the way she’s approaching this…It’s always good not to judge a book by its cover.”
Instead of letting hearsay or rumors color her perception of her cast members, Countess said she waited to see for herself.
“I get along with everybody. The thing is: I don’t allow anyone to paint a picture for me and do that background stuff. I like to let you show me what you’re about and then I make the decision for myself. That’s the rule on standby. Someone can easily have a bad day. I like to paint the picture myself. I don’t need no sidebar conversation,” Countess said. “I like to talk to the main person and draw from that and then on top of that, I just know, we’re all human beings. We’re going to have our good days and we’re going to have our bad days.”
