(CelebNMusic247) Although it may seem way too late for a third installment for Bill & Ted, the studio feels that the enduring popularity of the Bill & Ted franchise guarantees an audience for the threequel.
But will recapture the, uh, magic of its predecessors, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure (1989) and Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991)?
Bill & Ted 3 is being rumored to star Keanu Reeves, who will reprise his role as Ted Logan and Alex Winter as Bill S. Preston, Esq. So whats the hold ups with the Threequel? – Flip and read on…
First off, MGM holds the franchise rights to Bill & Ted, but are looking around for a studio to co-finance the threequel before giving it a greenlight.
While, Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon are selling Bill & Ted 3 as a relatively inexpensive comedy, along the lines of Hot Tub Time Machine ($36 million, for the record). Earlier this year things changed as Matheson and Solomon (the same guys behind Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure and Bogus Adventure) emerged to have a spec script penned.
Then, director Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest) is set to helm the time-traveling, dim-witted buddy duo’s return to the big screen.
As its been said that Keanu Reeves pitching some wild ideas that included bringing Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, and Werner Herzog together to direct.
Thanks to successful movies like Bill & Ted, Harold and Kumar was created taking the box office by storm. Harold and Kumar are this milleniums Bill & Ted, like they were the 80s version of Cheech and Chong who opened the door for movie of this genre. Even though it sound like a great plan to reboot Bill & Ted, is it the right move?
Bill & Ted are running into the same snags that other 80′s frnachises have run into like Ghostbusters 3, which lacks Bill Murry and Dumb and Dumber 2 which lost Jim Carrey earlier this year over a disagreement with the project.
So the question still stands – will Bill & Ted 3 get a green light?
We’ll keep you posted on what happens.
