Get more on Delta Rae on the flip…
Delta Rae, the three siblings band that includes Ian Hölljes (vocals and guitar), Eric Hölljes (vocals, guitar, piano and keys) and Brittany Hölljes (vocals), as well as Elizabeth Hopkins (vocals), Mike McKee (percussion) and Grant Emerson (bass guitar) Killed it at KAABOO!
Delta Rae is an unbeatable combination as a musical unit.
Elizabeth Hopkins + Brittany Hölljes are impressive live, especially at a huge festival like KAABOO Del Mar. With an unforgettable sound, great arrangements and beautiful melodies steeped in pop, blues, country and roots rock that is sonically big and played out with well with larger-than-life dramatic gestures that came across as exciting and riveting. It really felt like an arena rock show. That isn’t a bad thing but if the music was performed in smaller more intimate setting where subtlety and nuance are key that could have been more a liability than asset.
What is so insanely cool about Delta Rae?
Each member of Delta Rae took a turns in the spotlight showcasing their individual talents and have an engaging, charismatic presence. They switched gears effortlessly from solo singing picking up different instruments and then returning to background once again resuming their supporting positions within the band. Delta Rae performed a few songs off their latest album released this year, “After It All,” including “Chasing Twisters” and “Morning Comes” and “Holding On To Good” from 2012’s “Carry The Fire.” Their unique, on-fire set at KAABOO Del Mar will be remembered as one of the festival’s standout performances.
What’s so striking about Delta Rae?
It’s that they hail from Durham, NC, the band members are incredibly strong as a lead vocalist and instrumentalist in their own right they could easily have a solo career apart from the band but together they are unbeatable combination as a musical unit. We loved watching DR live. The were energetic. Their performance was intoxicating and stimulated the senses. Rae is a MUST SEE band to see live. They were one of the highlights of the inaugural KAABOO Festival.
