Brian And Rob Of Day 26 Talks Reunion, Danity Kane, And Defends Diddy
Last month, news emerged that Day 26, of Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ Making the Band fame, was reuniting for the first time since announcing their plans to go their separate ways to pursue solo projects back in 2012.
One of the first stops the group made to promote their upcoming reunion tour was NYC, and after A LOT of confusion and failed communication, I FINALLY got the chance to sit down with Brian and Rob at their Manhattan hotel.
During our talk, the guys gave me the deets on what led to their reunion, their thoughts on the recent reunion of their sister group Danity Kane, and defended Diddy, who’s long had a reputation for financially “raping” the artists on his Bad Boy label.
Check out highlights from our talk and watch the entire interview below.
ON WHAT LED TO THEIR REUNION:
Rob: “I was searching on everybody’s social media, you know what I’m saying. Their Twitters, their Facebooks, and Instagrams, and my own as well. Everybody’s putting out their solo singles and promoting their solo events and everything, and I seen all the love that we was still getting from our fans individually, but at the end of every time, like with my page for example. I put out a song, it’s like, ‘oh my God Rob, I love this song; it’s my favorite song; Oh my God, please, where’s Willie Mike, Brian, and Que?’ So it’s like, they showing the love definitely, and let me know they’re there for me, but ultimately, it always comes back to the same thing. And I seen the pattern. I seen the same thing on everybody’s situation, and the fans were still rocking with us hard like we never left. So I just felt like it was just time.”
ON IF THEY WERE SURPRISED THAT DANITY KANE REUNITED WITHOUT D. WOODS:
Brian: “You know what, I honestly was, I ain’t going to lie. You know, when I first saw it, I was like, ‘where D at?’ I was really surprised. I was surprised, but they’re all still cool. D is definitely doing her thing; she probably had a different vision of the direction she wanted to go. From my understanding, all of the girls are still cool; they’re still friends. They call and talk to each other, so we all love them. Whatever they do, whether it’s individually or collectively, we’re definitely going to support them.”
ON DOING A REALITY SHOW ABOUT THEIR REUNION:
Brian: “We wouldn’t be against it, as long as it makes sense. If it makes sense, we would not be against it at all. But it would have to make absolute sense.”
ON SEAN “DIDDY” COMBS’ REPUTAION OF TAKING ADVANTAGE OF HIS ARTISTS:
Brian: “That’s not true. I’ll tell you this – every artist has the opportunity to get whatever contracts that they’re presented with, to get it looked over by an attorney. And you know, that’s when you go into ‘negotiations’ side of things, but some artists aren’t that smart, and they get excited, ‘oh, that’s Diddy! I’ma go ‘head and sign!’
Rob: “That’s anybody. If you can give somebody a contract, and be like here’s the contract, and it’s all in your favor, and they don’t take a chance to go do their business, who can you really blame that on? This music industry is 10% talent, and 90% business.”
Day 26 will hit the road for their reunion tour in the Spring, but they plan on releasing new music before then. It’s good seeing them, including Que, back together again. Be on the look out for them in a city near you in the coming months.
In the meantime, check out my interview with Brian and Rob in its entirety in the video below.
