Angie says DUECES to Hot 97!
The iconic radio personality who announced that “ultimately it is time to move on,” revealed to the world that she is looking towards the future as depicted in the photo she posted on Instagram, CelebNMusic247.com has learned.
She posted this photo, hinting to moving forward like a rumored Power 105 position, maybe???
She also writes this open letter to announce her departure:
“Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life. We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever. This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways. Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show ??”
stay tuned….
Love, angie
In April, Martinez had this to say about working at Hot 97:
“I’ve been working in this building since I’m 18.”
“I started here as—I wasn’t really an intern because I was getting paid. I think I was getting paid $3 an hour. I was driving the vans. I learned how to run the boards so then I started board-opping. I was the assistant to almost every department at some point. I worked my way out. My thinking was I wanted to be a Program Director. So in order to be a Program Director I was going to learn every piece of the building. But then it just turned out that I kind of fell in love with being on-air. Now you couldn’t pay me enough money to be a Program Director because that part of the job is so much more fun.”
Martinez speaks on one of the many iconic interviews she did on Hot 97, which includes Tupac. Angie says that she had to edit a two-hour conversation with Tupac into minutes for radio, although, she would would release it if she got permission from his mother.
“When I had to do that edit, I still wanted to represent what he was trying to—I didn’t want to misrepresent him.”
“Yes I toned it down and took out all that other inflammatory stuff. But I still didn’t want to misrepresent him. ‘Cause I didn’t feel like if something bad happened after that it was something I was gonna be okay with. Even now to this day I still have it. I been wanting to reach out to his mother. If his mother says, ‘Yeah, put it out’ then maybe I would just put it out.”
We would love to listen to the interview, so we hope one day soon Angie will release the interview. As for her leaving Hot97, we are hearing a rumor that she is moving to New York’s Power 105.1 home of Hip-Hop and R&B, but there is no confirmation at this time.
In the words of Angie Martinez – “Everything Ends!”
