American Idol tried real hard to make some drama with the show to increase rating with Nicki Minaj & Mariah Carey, but instead the ratings have be tanking!
Now rumors have been swirling and the future of Idol are running rampant. Even though Nicki seems to be the only judge with a point of view on the panel – she’s the only one that makes people want to tune in every week.
Is that enough?
Obviously not, because not only is Nicki’s fate on the show in jeopardy, but surprisingly, so is Mariah Carey’s.
Here’s the drop as reported by The Hollywood Reporter:
With ratings in a steep slide, American Idol producers and Fox executives in recent weeks hatched a dramatic plan to jumpstart the show: replace judge Mariah Carey with Jennifer Lopez, according to knowledgeable sources.
These sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Carey, who was touted as the big new addition to the judge’s panel this year, responded with a threat of litigation. With that, the plan was dropped, though Idol’s producers still are negotiating with Lopez, who served as a popular judge during the past two seasons, to appear on the show’s finale in May. And insiders say a search already has begun to replace Carey, most likely Nicki Minaj and possibly the entire judge’s panel for next season.
Think of it this way, Idol is on its way out and most viewer are board with the format, especially when you have shows like The Voice. Now that Christina and Cee-Lo are gone The Voice has improve and we hope they keep Shakira and Usher!
As for Idol…maybe its time to throw in the towel and call it quits before their rating are so bad they get cancelled. That would be worse and humiliating since they were the first singing competition show.
