One of the signature New York Giants players from the last decade has decided to retire.

David Diehl announced that he’s hanging it up after 11 seasons with the organization. He started the first 120 regular-season games of his career, and started on two Super Bowl champion teams.

“I’ve accomplished everything I could possibly dream of as a football player,” Diehl said in a statement. “If in 2003, anyone would have said that Dave Diehl, a fifth-round draft pick out of Illinois, would win two Super Bowls, play in the Pro Bowl and win every single Giant award possible, people would have said you’re crazy. I have a lot to be proud of.”

Diehl was known for his toughness and flexibility. He played practically every position on the line throughout his career.

“When I think of David Diehl what comes to mind is his indomitable spirit,” coachTom Coughlin said. “He got the most out of his God-given ability and that’s the best way that you can judge any individual.”

Diehl was the only player on the Giants that was with the organization before Eli Manning and Coughlin. Diehl didn’t get a lot of individual accolades, but anyone that followed the team closely knew he was one of their “glue” guys.
