(CelebNMusic247 – News) Oliver Stone Pulls Out of MLK Project
On Friday (Jan 17) director Oliver Stone has officially pulled out of the Martin Luther King biopic!
Stone was originally on board to write and direct the film. However, the director took to his Twitter account to explain his departure from the project.
It is unclear whether Stone’s exit will impact Jamie Foxx, who was cast to play the civil rights leader.
Here is what Olive Stone Tweeted:
According to reports, Stone announced his falling out with the project on Twitter, and proceeded to explain why producers didn’t want to go with his extensive rewrite of the script. And it turns out the reasoning seems to be that with the involvement of King’s family on the film, they’re trying to go with a more glossy version of the icon’s life, which is why they didn’t go with Paul Greengrass‘ plan for a “warts and all” portrayal in his stalled project Memphis. Now Stone is in the same boat.
Let’s be real, why is Oliver Stone rewriting Martin Luther King’s biopic. Why can’t MLK get a black director behind the project who truly understands the material without trying to show all highlighting all the ugly moments of the African American icon?
No disrespect to Stone, but stick to Wall Street and films that are not of another nationality.
