(CelebNMusic247-News) Chief Keef Anti-violence Campaign Draws Criticism
Chicago rapper Chief Keef’s anti-gun violence campaign poster has sparked criticism from some of the rapper’s detractors. Apparently, the person who submitted the photo claimed Keef gave his approval.
The 500campaign revealed the imagery on Instagram which features Keef riding in a convertible with a girl alongside a caption that reads:
“Angry Because Over 500 Youth Were Murdered in Chicago.”
Several pictures have been posted for the campaign, but critics took exception to Keef due to the violent imagery in his lyrics. Campaign organizer Bryant Cross defended his choice, saying:
Cross told NBCChicago.com:
“Chief Keef and brothers like him are the ones we should be engaging.”
”If you can’t look at a photo and not be hostile — there’s no hope. We have to be able to engage everyone, not just the people we like.”
Chief Keef whose real name is Keith Cozart, has been in the media eye ever since he came on the scene last year after fellow rapper Lil JoJo was shot dead by a drive by. The driveby was linked back to one of Keef’s crew members, which allegedly said the two were feuding.
Not only has Keef been linked to Chicago street violence, he also released his debut album “Finally Rich” through Interscope Records in 2012. Well-known rappers who make cameo appearances on the album include Young Jeezy and 50 Cent.
A month after the record’s release, the teen was sentenced to 60 days in juvenile detention for violating probation on the 2011 conviction, after investigators found a music video showing him holding a rifle at a gun range, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
