The Heated Rivalry breakout is circling Marvel’s Ghost Rider movie — in talks to star opposite Ryan Gosling, with no character named yet.

Marvel’s Ghost Rider movie may have found the face across from its Spirit of Vengeance. Connor Storrie, the breakout of Heated Rivalry, is in talks to join the MCU and star opposite Ryan Gosling in Ghost Rider, per TheWrap‘s October 27 report — talks, not a signed deal, and with no character identified in that report.
A rivalry breakout, a very different arena
Storrie arrives with real momentum. Per TheWrap, Heated Rivalry — the second part of Rachel Reid’s six-book Game Changers series, a set of romances set in professional ice hockey — averaged 10.6 million viewers in its first season on HBO Max, with a second season now in production. Storrie plays Ilya Rozanov opposite Hudson Williams’ Shane Hollander, rival players whose competitive relationship turns personal over several years. He was also most recently seen in Joker: Folie à Deux and is repped by CAA, per TheWrap. Follow-up coverage elsewhere has floated a villain role for him, but that remains unconfirmed — neither TheWrap’s report nor Marvel has named a character, and a talks-stage casting with no role attached is exactly where fans should keep the speculation labeled as speculation.
The Levy-Gosling reunion takes a darker turn
The film will be directed by Shawn Levy, per TheWrap, whose Marvel debut, Deadpool & Wolverine (2024), stands as the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time at $1.33 billion worldwide. Levy and Gosling are already a working pair: per TheWrap, the director and actor spent much of last year collaborating on Star Wars: Starfighter, which Disney and Lucasfilm release in May 2027. Gosling’s own attachment is the project’s origin story — announced on stage at San Diego Comic-Con in July 2026, per NME, where Gosling said, “This is a character I’ve wanted to play for a long time.” He had first publicly expressed interest in the role back in 2022, per NME, and the film is expected in cinemas in 2028, written by Jonathan Tropper.
A franchise with a family footnote
This will not be the Rider’s first ride. The character previously headlined two films starring Nicolas Cage, released in 2007 and 2011, per TheWrap — and the first of them co-starred Eva Mendes, who is married to Gosling. That gives this reboot an unusually personal hand-me-down: the new Johnny Blaze era, if Gosling’s version proves to be Blaze, begins in the shadow of a franchise his own partner helped launch. There is no trailer to judge any of it by yet — per GamesRadar+, there is no Ghost Rider trailer, the movie has not started filming, and footage is not expected until much closer to its 2028 release.
The 247 Take — Casting a streaming-romance breakout opposite Gosling is smart heat-mapping by Marvel: Storrie brings a young, fiercely online audience to a B-list occult hero, but until a character is named, this is a promissory note, not a match-up — and Marvel should announce the role before the rumor mill casts it for them.
