DC is making sure fans know exactly who Clayface is before the terrifying Batman villain makes his big-screen arrival.
Just days before DC Studios unleashes Clayface in theaters, DC Comics is releasing a special $1 comic book packed with classic Clayface stories, giving moviegoers a crash course in the twisted history of one of Gotham City’s strangest—and most disturbing—villains.
Clayface #1 Special Edition is scheduled to hit comic shops on October 14, 2026, just nine days before the Clayface movie arrives in theaters on October 23.

DC Is Digging Into Clayface’s Twisted History
The special edition isn’t simply a movie tie-in.
The DCU is reaching into its enormous comic-book vault to showcase stories that helped define Clayface across different eras.
The collection includes Matt Hagen’s first appearance in “The Challenge of Clayface” from Detective Comics #298, written by legendary Batman writer Bill Finger with artwork by Sheldon Moldoff.
Fans will also get “If a Man Be Clay” from Batman Villains Secret Files and Origins 2005 #1, written by Steve Purcell with artwork by Mike Mignola.
And DC isn’t stopping with the classics.
The special edition will also include a preview of the DC All In series Clayface: Celebrity Dirt, written by Jude Ellison S. Doyle with artwork by Fran Galan.
In other words, readers get classic Clayface, modern Clayface and a preview of what’s next—all for $1.
The Timing Is No Accident
DC Comics is releasing the special edition on October 14.
Then, on October 23…
Clayface hits theaters.
That gives moviegoers a little over a week to learn about the villain’s history before seeing DC Studios’ new interpretation on the big screen.
Retailers will reportedly be able to purchase bundles of 25 copies for $12.25, with the individual suggested retail price set at $1 per comic.
The final order cutoff is reportedly September 21, 2026.
And the cover?
It’s expected to feature key art from the movie, further connecting the comic directly to DC Studios’ theatrical release.

The upcoming Clayface movie is directed by James Watkins, with a screenplay credited to Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini.
Tom Rhys Harries stars as Matt Hagen/Clayface.
The cast also includes Naomi Ackie, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, David Dencik, Nancy Carroll and Joshua James, among others.
