Did you hear about Alien: Covenant getting a Hard R?

With the Ridley Scott‘s big win at the 2016 Golden Globes Awards

Ridley revealed to reporters backstage at the 2016 Golden Globes Awards that he plans to make the upcoming Alien: Covenant movie and he plans to make it fresh, new riveting and pushing the envelope.

He plans to make the new Alien: Covenant a definite hard R, because he wants to go back to the beginning and make a movie that is just as cringe-worthy and shocking. Scott wants to take the John Hurt scene from the original 1979 film, and take that intensity and amplified it and make it something you’ve never scene before. More disgusting more gross and definitely way more bloodier than the first.

After the release of Alien and Aliens the franchise just seemed to lose its appeal with wonky sequels and cliché story lines that didn’t push the envelope or make you think or even question the what if factor.

This time around Ridley is going there, since the upcoming Alien: Covenant is a trilogy. We would expect nothing less from this series and nothing less from Scott, who has never shied away from the blood ‘n guts throughout his long career.

Congrats goes out to Scott for his Globes win, but it is still strange that his movie won for Best Musical or Comedy, despite being neither a musical or a comedy.

We guess this was a way to give Ridley his award for best movie and The Revenant’s director Alejandro González Iñárritu, his awards for best movie and director. Way to go Golden Globes. It sounds fixed, looks fixed but it’s not. Maybe that’s called misdirection? Nah, The Globes wouldn’t be that obvious about fixing an awards show, right?

Anyways, moving on the legendary director behind Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Thelma and Louise, Prometheus and the less appealing Exodus: Gods and Kings assured the gathered journalists that he wouldn’t pull any punches with Alien: Covenant.

Without spilling a single bloody drop of detail, Scott did give a hint that he was plotting something “much worse” than the iconic chestburster scene from his original Alien. We are happy to hear that Ridley is going to go there again and really amp things up. He also said that he was doing it for the many fans who are thirsting for more Alien blood shed.

Thank you Ridley for not succumbing to the cliché these days with franchises abandoning their nerve so kids can fill out the extra seats. Who wants a kid seeing an Alien movie anyway? R Rated movies are those awesome perks you used to look forward to when you were 14 and had to be 17 to see a movie. You needed a parents note to take to the theater or you needed a person of age to be your guardian. It was one of those things that sucked, but it made you be more of a kid. Then when you turned 17 it was a new day, you felt like you grew up. Taking those simple tiny details out of life for studio greed has ruined youth to an extent. It would be nice that more directors get back their balls that are hanging on the studio walls that say place her and sell out for mass appeal.

As for Alien: Covenant, it will take place ten years after the events of Prometheus, act as the first in a new trilogy, and star the wonderful Katherine Waterston, will begin filming this spring for an October 6, 2017 release date.
