Yasiin Bey And Mannie Fresh Back In The Lab

(CelebNMusic247) Yasiin Bey And Mannie Fresh Back In The Lab

Yasiin Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) is back in the lab with New Orleans super producer Mannie Fresh.

The Brooklyn rhymer and Fresh are joining forces to work on a new project titled, OMFGOD.

Footage has been released showcasing the stars working together in the studio. Another clip features Mos Def saying in 2007 that he wanted to work with the N’awlins hitmaker.

Yasiin Bey siad:

“I’ve always been a big fan of Mannie Fresh because I think his sound represents a modern version of that New Orleans Brass thing.”

“I think it’s kind of genius.”

At the begining of 2012, Mos Def had officially changed his name to Yasiin Bey. Word is, Def no longer answers to his previous hip hop name. He will only be addressed as Yasiin Bey from now on.

Other rappers who has followed in the recent name change is Snoop Dogg, who is now Snoop Lion. The West Coast rapper changed his name as a sign of growth in the industry as an artist.

No offence to either of them, but you never saw the Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Aerosmith, Elton John, Madonna, Mariah Carey or any iconic artist change their names. They created strong Brands and followings and with a name change like Yasiin or Snoop Lion its like starting over.

The only artists who did name changes have been Jane’s Addiction back in the day, because fame was too much and Perry Ferrell wanted to stay small. Welp, that only lasted a bit over 10 years, because they’re back to Jane’s Addiction, because that is where the money is and will always be.

While, Prince changed his name in the early 90’s to stand up against the label, making a statement that he no longer wanted to be a SLAVE to the industry. His symbol got him out of his contract, because he changed his name until his contract was over and no longer made music that the label wanted, forcing them to drop him. He then flipped that and parlayed his name and brand into the Prince empire. Its one of the smartest moves an artist has ever done in music history.

Now is Snoop Dogg is doing this for legal reasons with a label contract, then we understand, but if not, personally we think Snoop Lion is a whack name. Love the Dogg, hate Lion. Like ye, Snoop be smoking too much urb. He should have thought it out better. Why didn’t anyone on his team tell him it was whack? See what happens when you have boot lickers and no real friends around? All too scared to lose their position.

Sad.
