Yunel Escobar, 29, has been suspended for 3 games, after he played over the weekend displaying a homophobic message under his eyes on his face during a recent game .

The shortstop has stepped up to apologize for his mistake.

On Saturday, Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Yunel Escobar has stepped up decorated his face with black patches under his eyes with the Spanish word [maricón] for “f**got”, which he wore during Saturday’s game against Boston.

Today, Yunel has learned he needs to keep anti sematic words like fagot off the playing field. Moments ago, Escobar addressed the media … and explained,  Yunel apologized to his fans, “honestly, I’m sorry.”

He added:

“I feel bad, I’m leaving my team for something I didn’t intend to do. I have nothing against the gay community and honestly I’m sorry.”

He claimed:

“It was just a joke and it wasn’t directed to anyone in particular.”

Escobar says the phrase has a different meaning in Spanish, however, that didn’t sit well with any players or fans in the stadium.

When Yunel was asked why he wrote it on his face, he was unable to clarify no give a real answer why he did it.

Huh, sounds like he knew what he was doing.

Anyways, the Toronto Blue Jays shortstop is FORCED to forfeit his salary for all 3 games that he will miss and a portions of the money will reportedly going to GLAAD.
