CelebNMusic24.com has this report via Collider:

The remake is based on James O’Barr‘s graphic novel of the same name, the original film starred Brandon Lee as the title character – an avenging supernatural force. A year after Eric and his fiancee are murdered on the eve of their wedding, he rises from the grave and assumes the role of The Crow.

The remake is set to film this year with The Hallow director Corin Hardy at the helm. The film has been in the works for years now, and has burned through a lengthy list of lead actors in the process – most recently Luke Evans, who officially exited the project in January. Huston is best known for his work on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire and is currently heading up the Ben-Hur remake. Deadline reports that The Crow remake is finally set to begin production after Huston wraps Ben-Hur. Jessica Brown Findlay is rumored for the role of Eric’s fiancée, Shelley, but there is no official word on her casting yet.

The Crow remake still baffles me. The ’90s have certainly come back in vogue in the last few years, but goth culture hasn’t had much of a comeback. I’m not sure who the target audience is here, or how the film will play in a contemporary context. Maybe The Crow will usher in a new era of goths. Regardless, Hardy is an exciting director, Relativity Studios is obviously keen on the project, and given the number of talented actors who have shown interest, there’s likely a good hook to the vision for the film. I just hope Huston holds on to the role so they can finally move forward on the darned thing.
