It’s has been confirmed as of Wednesday (July 24) that the royal family has given their next generation his royal baby name!

Yesterday fans of the royal family were in a frenzy when Prince William and Duchess Kate walked out revealing their newborn son and now today they make another mark in royal history naming their son.

On Wednesday, they released the young prince’s name, George Alexander Louis.

Here is the history of George and what that name means to the royal families bloodline.

George, long considered the most likely name for the new heir to the throne, was the name of Queen Elizabeth II’s father, King George VI, who died in 1952.

BabyNames.com founder Jennifer Moss reveals:

“George VI was a beloved monarch, rallying the country during World War II. Most Brits think of it as a very Kingly and Royal name and are happy with the choice.”

She added:

“Ironically, the name has a more “common” meaning: earth worker (farmer).”

Alexander, one of the new prince’s middle names, is not a royal name, but it’s believed that it might be used as a nickname, with his parents calling him Alex at home.

Louis, the infant prince’s other middle name, is also one of the middle names of his father, Prince William. It is a reference to Prince Charles’ favorite great-uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten, a British naval officer who was assassinated by the Irish Republican Army in 1979.

Moss concluded:

“In the US, reaction is mixed: most associated with the recent past-president but also from our founding father, George Washington.”
