Pharrell Williams spoke to The Creators Project about his collaboration with electronica duo Daft Punk on their newest studio album, Random Access Memories.

The N.E.R.D. creator and super producer is feature on Daft Punk‘s (French duo Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter)  “Get Lucky”  with legendary producer/songwriter Nile Rodgers.

Pharrell explains how lucky and thankful he was to be on the Daft Punk track. He explains that his experience was

Pharrell explain that their new music is like a drug for your mind and ears saying, “It’s beyond 3D. It’s like 4D. It’s in your mind. You don’t need [Molly] MDMA for this music.”

Pharrell explains:

“The robots sort of reached out and they kept trying to figure out when we were gonna be in Paris.”

“And so finally I ended up in Paris. They were like ‘Well, what have you been working on?’ And I played them some of the stuff I had been working on and I was like ‘Yeah, I’m kinda like in this Nile Rodgers place right now.’ And they looked at each other and I was like ‘What? You guys don’t like [that]?’ And they were like ‘Okay, so this is what we want you to write to.’ So, they play it. Nile Rodgers is actually playing in the track.”

Pharrell adds:

“It’s beyond 3D. It’s like 4D. It’s in your mind. You don’t need MDMA for this music. Cause the music is so incredibly vivid,”

“People lost respect for the groove. Everything is just so synthetic that like it doesn’t really–it’s just missing the gut…Somewhere outside of the ether that we exist in is a multitude of realms of possibility and alternate directions. And I think they just went in those libraries and just dusted off those things. It’s kinda like the mid ‘70s, early ‘80s of a different universe and dimension. Not of this one.”
