Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has found himself in the news but thanks to police the negative press and gun charges have been cleared.

Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh has found himself in the news for all the wrong reasons since his team kicked off the 2013 regular season. Most recently, the polarizing defender was cleared by police following an incident in which he flashed a pellet gun at a cable repairman, according to The Detroit Free Press‘ Dave Birkett.

According to Birkett, Birmingham police have stated that no charges will be brought against Suh, whose version of the incident was backed up by surveillance video taken from his home.

The incident occurred on Aug. 16 outside of Suh’s Birmingham home. As the case report describes, a 22-year-old Comcast employee called authorities not long after 9 p.m. that night to report that he had been threatened by the 26-year-old NFL star while working on a utility pole in his backyard.

The employee, Spencer Ferrell, alleged that Suh cursed at him and “pointed a gun upward” before eventually asking him to leave the property. Per the report, via Birkett, police determined that Suh never acted in a threatening manner:

“At no time in the video did Mr. Suh point the pellet gun at Mr. Ferrell in a threatening manner,” the report said. “The video shows the pellet gun in Suh’s right hand pointing at the ground. After several minutes, Mr. Suh has it over his right shoulder, pointing away from Mr. Ferrell.”

Suh has yet to comment on the incident and subsequent investigation.

According to the case report, the gun in question was a green Gamo Varmint Hunter HP air rifle, which Suh’s sister turned over to police during the investigation.

Police met with Suh at the Lions’ team hotel shortly after Ferrell contacted them and was cooperative, according to their report. The former No. 2 overall draft pick told police officers that he was “in fear for his and family members’ safety daily and would always protect his family.”

Following a thorough investigation, Birmingham police have concluded that there is no evidence that Suh threatened Ferrell and it appears that Suh can now focus on appealing his massive $100,000 fine for an illegal low block on Minnesota Vikingscenter John Sullivan in Detroit’s 34-24 win over its division rival in Week 1.
