We are sad to announce that the Oscar nominee for “The Green Mile,” Michael Clarke Duncan, has died while being hospitalized following a July heart attack.

Duncan’s publicist Joy Fehily released a statement  from Clarke’s fiancée, the Rev. Omarosa Manigault:

He said that Michael Clarke Duncan, 54, has died earlier this morning [Monday September 3rd]  in a Los Angeles hospital after nearly two months of treatment.

He had suffered a heart attack in July and did not recover.

Duncan stood 6-foot-5, and weighed in at 300 pounds. He has appeared in dozens of films over the years, from Armageddon, Planet of the ApesKung Fu Panda, Green Lantern  and more. in 2012, Duncan landed a role on the hit series The Finder. His upcoming works due out in 2012 and 2013 are In the Hive, The Challenger and Criminal Empire for Dummy’s

While making Armageddon, Duncan became friends with Willis, who was instrumental in getting him the role in Darabont’s adaptation of Stephen King’s serial novel The Green Mile.

The tall and massively built actor with the shaved head and deep voice won an Oscar in 1999 for his role in The Green Mile which brought him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor. in the film Michael Clarke Duncan played John Coffey, a convicted murderer.
