It seems Will Farrell is trying to recruit the funniest onscreen box office draws for the sequel to Anchorman 2!
Kristen Wiig has just been added to the cast, as well as her Bridemades castmate Melissa McCarthy (Jenny McCarthy‘s cousin) becuase these two are movie magic!
No actually they’re just the hot actresses of the season, hoping to make this film a box office WINNER!
But that’s not all Will has up his sleaves, because joining Kristen is Chris Parnell, Jessica Williams, Amy Poehler and Donald Glover who will be the new blood in the film.
Ferrell, Applegate, Paul Rudd, Steve Carell and David Koechner have all been confirmed for The Legend Continues, in addition to newcomer Wiig (who may playing a love interestto Carrell’s low-IQ weatherman, Brick Tamland). Since production is still in the early stages, we hope they’re squeezing in as much comic talent as possible. Here are five more comedians we think should make an appearance in Anchorman 2!
As if you needed more reasons to get excited about the Anchorman sequel, director Adam McKay announced via Twitter that the Bridesmaids star has signed on for Anchorman: The Legend Continues.
McKay, a.k.a.@ghostpanther, tweeted on Monday:
“Just found out Kristen Wiig officially on board for Anchorman 2. Cannonball!”
McKay teased:
“It’s right when all the news started changing with the 24-hours news cycle in ’78 or ’79,”
“All of a sudden, local news stations diversified and had Latino anchors and African-American anchors, and any time you’re talking about diversity and the Action News team, that’s always fun to deal with.”
The 2004 comedy Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, about a hotshot local news anchor (Ferrell) whose world is turned upside-down when the station hires a female reporter (Christina Applegate), is long overdue for a sequel. Like the first film, the sequel will be set during a wave of social change in the 1970s.
