Kobe Bryant has decided that he will play one final season with the LA Lakers before he hangs his Laker Jersey.

After 20 years with the Lakers and five NBA titles, next season will be Kobe Bryant’s last according to Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak.

“He has indicated to me that this is it,” Kupchak said Thursday in a radio appearance with SiriusXM NBA Radio (via New York Post); however, following the interview, Bryant took to Twitter and said otherwise:

Nadanew” or nothing new suggests Bryant has no retirement plans as of yet, but Kupchak maintained there has been no talk of the star guard continuing to play beyond the 2015-2016 season.

“I think first and foremost, he’s on the last year of a deal,” said Kupchak regarding the final year of his two-year $48.5 million extension with the team.”There have been no discussions about anything going forward. I don’t think there will be.”

While there haven’t been any discussions for Bryant to play beyond next season, Kupchak did indicate it’s possible things could change, though unlikely. His last three seasons have ended early due to injury and last season Bryant played only 35 games as a result of the shoulder injury he sustained.

“A year from now, if there’s something different to discuss, then it will be discussed then,” Kupchak said. “I talk to him from time to time … and he is recovering. He’s running. He’s getting movement and strength in the shoulder. We expect a full recovery, but yeah, he’s much closer to the end than to the beginning.”
