Hot 97 Loses Another DJ

Hot 97 Loses Another DJ!?!

First Mister Cee, then Angie Martinez and now Hot 97 Loses Another DJ, Cipha Sounds has left the long-running urban radio station.

According to reports, Radio station Hot 97 has fired longtime host Cipha Sounds, less than a day after he criticized management on a podcast for the way it handled his removal as interim afternoon host.

Hot 97 issued the following statement:

“Effective immediately, Cipha Sounds is no longer with WQHT HOT 97 FM. We wish him well on his future endeavors.”

Cipha Sounds said he has already started his next move, releasing his own statement on Instagram, saying:

“After 17 years, I’m leaving Hot 97. I’m changing my relationship status from ‘it’s complicated’ to ‘single’. It’s been an amazing ride – from intern to weekends to morning show host to fill Angie’s seat in afternoons.”

“Many years of incredible, life-changing experiences and enough amazing memories to last five lifetimes. The next move is already underway and I promise it’s going to be huge.”

Before Sounds removal, the station announced last week it has hired Nessa Nitty as the permanent afternoon host, while Cipha would remain in other unspecified positions.

Adding salt to Cipha Sounds fresh wound, rival DJ/personality, Charlamagne Tha God, who works over at New York radio station Power 105 sent several not-so-cryptic images suggesting his rival’s time had ended.

Charlamagne may have not mentioned any names, but it was very clear who he was speaking about.
