Fantastic Four Reboot Falls Flat!!!

REVIEW: We were so hyped up to see this movie, we ignored the media bashing and anyone attempting to claim that the Fantastic Four franchise was ruined, but then we saw it and Fantastic Four Reboot Falls Flat.

THE FANTASTIC FOURWe are NOT sure if it is worthy of a sequel, but we weighed out the film and why we feel that the movie was a lackluster puddle of mud. There was no spark or flame to Chris Evans portrayal of the Human Torch. Although we enjoyed Micheal B Jordan in the role, but he and The Thing had no chemistry between each other.

We understand that movie studios are trying to be PC by changing things up with black actors taking over roles to add a new dimension to movies, but when we think about it. Jordan is NOT a good fit, nor is the black father and adoption storyline in an established superhero comic.

Second, Kate Mara as Sue Storm was like watching paint dry, she brought nothing to the table with her emotionless talent in this role (did someone owe a favor so they cast Mara?). It felt like she lacked imagination and true understanding of the role. In fact, it felt like she flunked improve 1 and has no clue how to shine, Fantastic Four Reboot Falls Flat-0807-1which baffled us because she is a decent actress in prior films. She had no onscreen chemistry with Miles Teller (Reed Richards) or Michael B. Jordan, who is supposed to be her brother Johnny Storm. Another point we would like to make is, unlike the Chris Evans version, Johnny Storm is just a punk street racer this go around which was really a whack choice.

We don’t understand why the studio feels the need to remake all these films, but we get that they want younger actors to take on the roles for less money and then tie them into three movie deals, unless the first film is a big bag of burning poo sitting on your doorstep.

Fantastic Four Reboot Falls Flat-0807-4So, there we were sitting in a dark theater looking forward to the anti-climatic Fantastic Four reboot. We sat patiently watching to see if there was going to be a burst of excitement, but instead we watch a long drawn out foundation film layout. There was plenty of back story and dialogue, but when it came to caring about Sue Storm, Reed Richards or Johnny Storm, we didn’t care. However, the one actor that did give his all was Ben Grimm / The Thing (Jamie Bell) – his back story alone was the most interesting. He was NOT in the film much, but when he was he shined brighter than the lead roles and that is sad. As for Miles and Michael, they had great chemistry when it was just the two of them onscreen but once Kate joined the scenes went flat with he one clueless expression she used throughout the film. It was terrible (can someone get an acting coach I feel like I’m watching Beyonce in Obsessed!)

Then, it gets worse because the MOST important role is Victor Von Doom, who should be played by an incredibly talented actor, but instead we get pretty face number five, Victor Von Doom/ Dr Doom (Toby Kebbell), who didn’t impress us in Wrath of the Titans, The East or The Counselor. And now we can add The Fantastic Four reboot to his unappealing acting talents. What worse is that he can be seen in the upcoming Ben-Hur remake (possible flop), Gold, Warcraft and A Monster Calls – hopefully he took some acting classes teaching him how to act.

The fantastic Four reboot could have been a success, but its a combination of things from a lackluster storyline, to the actors in the roles. Fantastic Four Reboot Falls Flat-0807-5An actor can shine in any bad role if they know how to do it like Jamie Bell. But this movie lacked chemistry between each of the actors. There was no brotherly sisterly love between Sue and Johnny like in the first between Jessica Alba and Chris Evans. And worst of all there was no tension or competition between Reed or Victor like there was between Ioan Gruffudd (Reed) and Julian McMahon (Victor).

Plus the story should have been flushed out one more time and the writers should have added a couple of lines between Victor and Reed over the love of Sue. There should have been more competition between The Thing and The Human Torch and the movie should have had more intrigue and suspense. It lacked everywhere

The original cast that made the Fantasitic 4 Awesome!

The original cast that made the Fantasitic 4 Awesome! We miss them.

and that falls on the director and writers in our book. The actors can only do so much, but when a script lacks and the director vision is flippant, the movie suffers.

If the studio does decide to keep the existing 2017 release date, then they NEED a new director and another writer to assist the current one to truly flush out the film. As for the actors, they NEED onscreen chemistry classes, especially Kate Mara, she was horrible as Sue Storm.

We are MOST upset because this was one of our favorite franchise and now it’s flushed down the toilet.
