Full-spoiler recap — Season 1, Episode 1, “Golden Years in a Golden Place”: the RHONY legends reunite in Palm Beach, and a ten-year-old Bluestone Manor snub detonates the series premiere.
Spoilers ahead for The Golden Life Season 1, Episode 1, “Golden Years in a Golden Place,” the 90-minute series premiere that aired Tuesday, October 20 on E!. Five legacy stars of The Real Housewives of New York City — Luann de Lesseps, Ramona Singer, Dorinda Medley, Sonja Morgan and Kelly Bensimon — trade New York’s chill for a golden era in Palm Beach. The show positions itself as docu-reality rather than docusoap. The women bring their history anyway.
The setup: Palm Beach rules
Per E!’s official episode synopsis and premiere coverage, the hour lays out the new board quickly: Ramona — who has put down roots in Palm Beach, as has Sonja — introduces the ladies to Palm Beach’s social rules, a subject she treats as her personal jurisdiction. Kelly, back in the town where she has real roots after building a real estate career in New York, is looking for love. Luann arrives with a boyfriend, who receives what the network calls an extra-warm welcome from the group. And Sonja arrives with an agenda: revisiting the past with Dorinda.
One piece of history hangs over the premiere before it starts. Jill Zarin was originally part of the show and departed during production after public comments criticizing Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl halftime performance drew backlash — a saga covered heavily at the time. The five who remained have decades of shared history, and the premiere wastes no time spending it.

Bluestone Manor, again
The feud at the center of the episode is ten years old. In 2016, during RHONY Season 8, Dorinda hosted the women at Bluestone Manor, her Berkshires estate — and left Sonja off the guest list. Sonja has maintained ever since that the exclusion hurt, and in the premiere she says it also cost her financially, in episode pay for filming she missed.
Parade’s coverage of the premiere describes the confrontation building to a yacht party, where Sonja raises the snub and Dorinda sidesteps the accusation — maintaining, as she has for years, that the two of them have hashed this out more than once. The awkward exchange ends with Sonja stumbling into another guest and breaking his wine glass, which is about as perfect a metaphor as reality TV gets. Later, Luann and Dorinda question whether Sonja is being honest about certain parts of her life, speculating that financial struggles may be driving her behavior. Sonja, meanwhile, opens up to Kelly during Pilates about why she keeps pushing: “If I’m still hurting and she’s my friend, wouldn’t she want to just discuss it and move on? That’s what I want.”
Premiere coverage also notes the sharper edge underneath: during a party game of “F***, Marry, Kill,” Sonja described Dorinda with a word RHONY fans will remember from their ugliest era — “unf***able” — a callback to the original 2016 clash that tells you exactly how buried this hatchet is not.
The feud leaves the screen
The premiere’s loudest scene may be the one that happened after it aired. As Parade reported, Dorinda took to Threads on premiere night and unloaded: “Liar liar liar,” she wrote about Sonja. “As it continues! Don’t believe a word she says.” Then: “Please move on @sonjatmorgan you’re becoming scary,” and “Could we please help @sonjatmorgan move into the present and not live 20 years ago,” with the hashtags #helpher and #graygardens. Fans flooded her replies demanding one thing — “CLIP!” — the footage to back her up.
Next week only sharpens it: Episode 2, “I Need a Mocktail,” has a moment between Sonja and Luann’s boyfriend putting the longtime friends at odds, while Kelly’s dive into Palm Beach dating lands her in Sonja’s crosshairs.
The 247 Take — E! sold The Golden Life as a fresh start, and the premiere’s best trick is admitting there isn’t one. These five women cannot enter a room without their shared past entering with them — Sonja’s hurt is real, Dorinda’s exhaustion with it is real, and both of them are too seasoned to pretend otherwise for the cameras. Palm Beach gives the feud better weather and better real estate. The feud itself packed its own bags.
The Golden Life airs Tuesdays at 10/9c on E!.
