(CelebNMusic247 – NewsDivergent Director Neil Burger Refuses to Healm Sequel Insurgent?

Divergent hasn’t even hit the big screen yet and the director drama has already started since, Neil Burger has said “NO” to filming the sequels.

Divergent is th first of three films and Summit has already scheduled the sequel Insurgent for March 2015, followed by the third movie Allegiant in March 2016, announced last night.

Although the film has yet to release, the studio is hoping to have Hunger Games style success with the trilogy from the adaptation of Veronica Roth‘s dystopian sci-fi series, set in a future world where people are divided into distinct factions based on their personalities.

The bad news, is director Neil Burger (Limitless) is in post-production on Divergent and has already let it be known her is NOT RETURNING!

Here’s the drop via Variety:

Burger will not return to direct Insurgent.  The report does not specify why Burger will not return, but the tight schedule may be a culprit.  Insurgent will begin production in the spring to make the March 20, 2015 release date.

For more on Divergent, check out our set visit coverage.  Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Jai Courtney, Ray Stevenson, Zoe Kravitz, Miles Teller, Maggie Q, Tony Goldwyn, Ashley Judd, and Kate Winslet star.  Hit the jump to see what Summit had to say.

Here’s Summit’s response clarifying the director’s seat shake-up:

“Neil Burger is a rock star and he is doing a fantastic job on Divergent.  We can’t wait for you to see the film.  But as amazing as Neil is he still cannot be in two places at once and thus needs to finish post production on Divergent while we gear up to start production on Insurgent.  So, although Neil will continue on as part of our Divergent family as an executive producer, we sadly have to find another director for the next chapter in Veronica Roth’s fantastic series.”

Divergent opens March 21, 2014.
