During James Franco’s one on one with David Letterman, who revealed something he’s held in private since the late 1990s.

Letterman told Franco why “Spring Breakers” director Harmony Korine has been banned from the show.

Here’s the drop via The HuffingtonPost:

Rumor had it that Korine was banned because he pushed Meryl Streep backstage; as it turns out, the altercation wasn’t necessarily physical.

Letterman said he went to Streep’s dressing room to greet her, but the star wasn’t there. “I looked around and found your friend Harmony going through her purse,” Letterman said to Franco. Franco had a hard time believing it, but Letterman insisted it was the truth.

“I said, OK, that’s it — put her things back in her bag and get out of here,” Letterman said. And Korine has been banned from “Late Show” since.

Franco tried to defend Korine, saying he was probably “on something” that night. He even convinced Letterman to lift the ban, so maybe Korine will get the chance to talk about the incident in a future appearance.

“I would do it in a second, if he asked me back,” Korine told HuffPost Live earlier this month. Korine admitted to be “pretty out of it back then,” around the time of his Letterman appearance.

James Franco can be see in “Spring Breakers” and “Oz the Great and Powerful,” both film in theaters now. “Late Show with David Letterman” airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. ET on CBS.
