CelebNMusic247.com reports that Billy Porter earned the nod for his turn as sharp-tongued emcee Pray Tell in Pose, the series about New York’s LGBT ballroom scene in the 1980s.

Billy Porter took to Instagram to share his success, simply writing:

Ahhhhhhh, I’m screaming.

Porter continued with thanking everyone and the Emmys:

Thank you. All of you. My phones been buzzin’ off the hook. I am so overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. There was no context for this before….to be an openly gay black man nominated for a leading actor drama #EmmyAward – it just didn’t happen. And now, I’m living the truth that it can be possible. It’s incredible to be recognized for the work. And then it goes much deeper. It’s about representation. It’s about all people’s stories being told. It’s about the art. We, creative people, have the power to transform hearts and minds doing the work that we do and I am just thrilled to be able to do that. I have to thank @fxnetworks, @mrrpmurphy, @svcanals, @bradfalchuk, @janetmock, @ourladyj — everybody involved in the show and those who have taught me how to dream the impossible. We are here and we ain’t going anywhere. The sky is the limit now, honey! Thank you @televisionacad. See ya in September! Check out Emmy Nominee for Outstanding Drama Series

POSE is currently in its second season on FX, was also nominated in the drama series category.

It is really great to see a series like POSE get the deserved recognition it is receiving from the Emmys. The show is such an awesome look back at the gay community and the trials and tribulations of that time.

As for Porter, the 49-year-old previously won the Tony for best actor in a musical in 2013 for his turn as Lola in Kinky Boots, and he also picked up the 2014 Grammy for best musical theatre album for Kinky Boots.

Kinky Boots is a phenomenal musical. It was made into a movie as well that starred Chiwetel Ejiofor.
