Azealia Banks Free From Universal Records

Six months after “begging to be dropped” from Universal Music, Azealia Banks has said that she has left her major label record deal.

CelebNMusic247.com has learned that Azealia Banks has officially parted ways with Universal Records and has gone back to being a indie artist.

She Tweeted:

Azealia Banks signed to Universal with great fanfare back in 2012 after ditching indie label XL where she debuted her UK hit single ‘212’ in 2011.

Azealia Banks’ debut album ‘Broke with Expensive Tastes’ remains unreleased.

“I REALLY should have signed with Sony,” she wrote earlier this year, but she has also expressed regret for leaving XL in 2010.

Based on the 23-year-old’s Twitter feed, she is unlikely to sign with another major.

On Thursday she wrote:

“Now I get to be the cool indie chick I imagined I would be when I was 14!!!”

A representative from the label has yet to confirm the artist’s departure, and it is not clear if Banks will sign to another deal.
