The man charged with murder in the death of a 2-year-old son of Minnesota Vikingsrunning back Adrian Peterson was released from jail Tuesday after his family posted bond.

Joey Patterson, 27, had his bond amount reduced on Monday from $1 million cash only to $750,000 cash or surety.

Here’s the drop:

Lincoln County State’s Attorney Tom Wollman said today that “Patterson’s family put up $750,000 cash” and Patterson was released from Minnehaha County Jail. A jail official confirmed Patterson no longer is in custody.

Patterson is charged with second-degree murder and first-degree manslaughter in the Oct. 11 death of Tyrese Robert Ruffin, who is the son of Patterson’s girlfriend.

Wollman told a judge Monday that Patterson’s pattern of behavior and seriousness of the charges called for a higher bond.

Patterson’s attorney, Tim Rensch of Rapid City, said the boy’s death is consistent with choking, which is what Patterson told a 911 operator had happened.
