EXCLUSIVE: Adam McKay speaks with CelebNMusic247 about the upcoming film Anchorman 2, working with Kanye West, collaborating with Will Ferrell and how Meagan Good shines in the sequel to Anchorman.
Writer/Director/Comedian Adam McKay has certainly come a long way since his days as Head Writer on the hit comedy series SNL from 2000 and 2001.
Adam sat down earlier this week with Emilio of CelebNMusic247 to talk about his upcoming film and sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, starring his partner and friend Will Ferrell.
McKay has been an intricate part of Ferrell’s career since the beginnings with films like the 2004 cult classic, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Old School, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers and The Other Guys. Adam McKay returns to one of Ferrell’s most memorable characters, Ron Burgundy in Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, which is a non-stop laugh out loud driven film.
In Anchorman 2 McKay and Will Ferrell (Ron Burgundy) have pushed the envelope with their comedic genius, tackling controversial issues of the 80’s like news switching to 24 hours a day, car chases being covered by local news, Interracial dating and meeting the family, and the competitiveness in the work field.
Anchorman 2 will have you laughing from beginning to end from some of the silliest to some of the smartest and most wickedly written jokes to hit the big screen in a long time.
CelebNMusic247 got the dish first hand from writer/director/comedian Adam McKay and how he went from SNL to making films for the big screen. We spoke to him about his writing process, vision and filming techniques to get the best in comedy from his cast.
The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native also spoke to us about working with Kanye West and how he adlibs one of the funniest lines in the film and how comforting it was to work with Drake, a seasoned actor/rapper/songwriter.

Adam McKay kept us laughing during interview with him while chopping it up about Anchorman 2. We touched on one of the most hilarious scenes in the film when Ron Burgundy has to meet with Meagan Good’s (Linda Jackson) family in the film. This is where McKay and Ferrell shine as comedic genius, since the scene is so edgy and borderline controversial. You can see that his days with Upright Brigade comedy troupe and the Second City Improv Company in Chicago helped to groom his abilities to write comedy. McKay described writing that particular scene as “sticky”.

Last year, Adam McKay had audiences holding their stomachs in the hilarious film The Campaign which made more than $100 million worldwide and was dubbed the highest grossing political comedy in U.S. box office history. That is not all Adam McKay has done recently, he was also behind the successful Paramount Studios comedy, The Dictator, starring Sacha Baron Cohen, which he was executive producer. His producer credits also attach him to the hit HBO series, Eastbound and Down season 1. Most recently, McKay produced the comedy/horror film Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Co-written and directed by Tommy Wirkola.
Adam McKay is also one of the masterminds behind the comedy website Funny or Die, which now gets over 35 million hits each year along with his partners Will Ferrell and Chris Henchy.
When we asked, Adam what was next, he revealed that his is currently working on a new project with Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. We also asked him if there was a sequel in the works, and Adam explained that he and Will felt it would be best to let fans decide like they did for the first film Anchorman, that was made nine years ago.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues opens on December 18th, 2013.
